In Place of War releases ‘Light Up,’ a new single from GRRRL directed by Brazil’s Laima Leyton, featuring an eclectic lineup of global artists: Lei Di Dai (Brazil), Awa Khiwe (Zimbabwe), Wiyaala (Ghana), Sohini Alam (UK/Bangladesh), and DJ-percussionist MABE (Venezuela).

GRRRL’s powerful new single, Light Up, releases on the 20th June 2025 ahead of their highly anticipated Glastonbury performance with guest artists MC Yallah (Uganda) and Manchester’s pussy power Oneda (Heavenly Recordings). This groundbreaking release celebrates women’s empowerment and global solidarity, showcasing the strength and creativity of independent women artists coming together to tell their collective stories through music.

Blending dark techno, ghetto bass, hip hop, dancehall, reggae, soul, and electronica, GRRRL pushes boundaries with a genre-defying sound that amplifies voices often unheard. Directed by Brazil’s Laima Leyton (Mixhell/Soulwax), the project features an extraordinary lineup: Lei Di Dai, the Queen of Brazilian Dancehall; Awa Khiwe, Zimbabwe’s Rap Queen; Wiyaala, the Young Lioness of Africa; British Bangladeshi singer - Sohini Alam; and DJ-percussionist MABE from Caracas. Together, these revolutionary artists craft a sonic experience that unites and empowers women worldwide.
